POTENTIAL SOURCES OF
EXPLOSIVE GASES :
• Thermal decomposition of cable
insulation resulting from electric
arcing or I2R heat: methane, ethylene,
acetylene, carbon monoxide
• Hydrolysis of water due to arcing
with carbon present: hydrogen,
carbon monoxide, methane
(secondary)
• Pipeline leaks of natural gas:
methane, ethane
• Leaks of sewer gas: methane,
ethane
• Leaks from underground storage
tanks: gasoline vapors
COMBUSTIBLE GAS MIXTURES :
• Gases like hydrogen, carbon
monoxide, methane/ethane, and
other hydrocarbons will form mixtures
that can reach concentrations equal
or above the LEL. (lower explosive
limit)
• Ignition will occur at the proper
combination of oxygen with the
combustible gases and high
temperature or when an ignition
source is provided.

pump specifically for dewatering
manholes. This pump will not provide an
ignition source that may cause an
explosion in a manhole. This pump is
certified by MSHA (Mining Safety and Health
Administration) and D.O.E.R. (Pennsylvania
Department of Environmental Resources)
approved.
Applications include: gassy coal mines,
tunnels, manholes where explosion proof
pumps are required. Our new NW521-EX
is guaranteed to run dry.
